A Cedarlane Academy coach, in Hacienda Heights, pleaded not guilty today to having unlawful sexual relations with a 14-year-old female student, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Terrence Lee (dob 1/28/88) of La Habra Heights has been charged with two felony counts in case KA115589: lewd act upon a child and oral copulation of a person under 16.
Deputy District Attorney Brendan Gibson of the Victim Impact Program is assigned to the case.
Prosecutors said at the time of the reported crimes, Lee was the basketball coach at Cedarlane Academy in Hacienda Heights. Cedarlane Academy is part of the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District.
Coach Terry allegedly began a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old female student in April 2017, according to prosecutors.
Earlier this month, the girl’s family member reportedly discovered sexually explicit messages between Lee and the girl, prosecutors added.
Lee was arrested on June 10 and bonded out the next day.
Lee is scheduled to return to court on July 17 for a pre-preliminary hearing in Department N of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.
If convicted on the child sexual abuse charges, the Cedarlane Academy coach faces a possible maximum sentence of three years and eight months in state prison, as well as lifetime sex offender registration.
The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
