Another Catholic High School teacher arrested on sex abuse charges hit the news last night. Diana Kelly Wendel-Yniguez was arrested on the afternoon of 5/18/17 on suspicion of child molestation and contacting a minor for the purpose of committing a sex crime. The charges stem from a report to police by the parents of a 17-year-old Ramona Convent High School Student, who found explicit text messages and conversations between the teacher and 17-year-old girl.
Diana Yniguez, also known as Mrs. Diana Wendel-Yniguez, is a seasoned Catholic School Teacher in the San Gabriel Valley and has taught at many different schools in the area. She graduated from Ramona Convent High School, an all girls Catholic high school in Alhambra, CA, in 1993. Most recently, she taught teens in homeroom 8th grade at St. Luke’s Catholic School in Temple City, CA. Mrs. Yniguez was an Azusa resident at the time of her arrest. She’s currently 42 years old.
It was reported by the Pasadena Star News that a family relative of the 17-year-old girl discovered the explicit messages sent by Mrs. Yniguez. The family member then alerted the teenager’s father of the discovery. The father then alerted police, leading to a quick police investigation beginning on Tuesday that led to the Romana Convent Teacher Arrested.
In cases like these, we often see a friend of the victims talk or come forward to a fellow teacher about explicit relationships between students. However, in this case, it seems that a caring family member had the teen’s safety and interest as a priority.

Diana Yniguez is the second Catholic High School teacher to be arrested this month in Los Angeles County for allegedly having a sexual relationship with at least one high school student. Mr. Maclyn Eick, a high school teacher at Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, was arrested two weeks ago on similar charges. Investigators suspect Eick had multiple victims.
An interesting fact between the two recent cases is that both Diana Yniguez and Maclyn Eick are alumni of the high schools where the alleged sexual abuse occurred.
