L.A.P.D. detectives suspect that William Eick abused more girls at Bishop Alemany. Our research shows that approximately 30% of all sexually abused minors report cases of sexual abuse by a trusted adult. Nevertheless, it is important for any student who has been sexually coerced by a teacher to seek legal advice. When a teacher takes advantage of young girls and boys through sexual relationships, the students are left to bear an unfair burden. And it’s this very type of confusing and overwhelming situation that might make a young student apprehensive about reporting directly to the police. If you feel this way, then your best option is to speak to a lawyer who can help you understand your rights. All of our consultations with clients are confidential. So even if you or someone you know had intimate contact with William Eick as a student, Anthony DeMarco can provide fully confidential legal advice and help possible victims begin to cope with the complexities of teacher/student sexual abuse.
If authorities don’t understand the full scope of abusive behavior practiced by a sexual perpetrator, then it is difficult to assess how many minors may have been victimized. Based on the statistics alone, there are possibly 6 or 7 more girls who were sexually molested by William Maclyn Murphy Eick. Recent reports indicate that William Eick had a tendency to develop “friendly” relationships with students who were nearly 18 years-old. We call this type of behavior “grooming;” when a sexual predator develops an emotional connection with his young victims. Grooming is a way for sexual predators to appear “normal” when, in fact, they are strategically coercing their potential victims into thinking that an ensuing sexual relationship is mutual.
Quite often, sexual relationships between students and teachers are known about by the students’ friends. Talking to a lawyer about a sexual relationship between a student and a teacher can help ease the burden that a student feels when holding these types of secrets. A good lawyer will help guide you through the process and help you make decisions that are best for you.
No high school student should be subject to the sexual advances of a teacher and any teacher who would uses their authority as a trusted adult to take advantage of their student in a sexual manner should be held accountable for the personal harm they have inflicted.
Consider speaking to a lawyer if you or someone you know were sexually involved with William Eick. Anthony DeMarco can help guide you towards the resources that are available to you so that you can help yourself, your friend, or your family member recover fully from this experience. If it were okay for an adult teacher to have sexual relationships with his young students, then the police would not be seeking an arrest. Help is here for you.
